“A textile need not be applied to a wall. Knodel found a way to make it a physical experience by embedding the viewer in the work. 44 Panel Channel is an ethereal corridor of china-silk panels through which viewers could walk, a place experienced kinesthetically. Fabric could become both sculptural form and an inhabitable and changeable construction.”
44 Panel Channel, 1973, silk
